I was just wondering if anyone can give me some information on state boards. I'm interested in both California and Oregon. I've heard the California one is hard and contains many of the state laws. I have no idea about Oregon. Thanks!

I too am interested in how the state board exams work/ what I need to be able to work in the USA. I have family in California and am hoping to practice there. I have heard that if I pass my ontario regulatory exam I can get a year permit to work in California before taking that exam. Any help would be great. Thanks
Does anyone knows what is needed to get board certified in internal medicine?
I know that in order to be boarded in any field, you either need to do an internship and then a residency or have around 6 years of experience in the field, and then take the specialist boards. I'm not sure of the exact process for internal medicine, though, so I can't say for sure.
I was just told that there are a lot of regulatory laws on the California boards. There are also two parts, the legal part and a portion similar to the NAVLE.
Well, it is pretty difficult. First, you need to be holding an internship in the field of interest which is approved or 2 years of clinical experience, then you must be eligible to apply for a 4-year residency programme in a veterinary teaching hospital or a clinic that is associated with European or American College of Veterinary Medicine. After completing the residency, you are able to get the board exam and if you pass, you are board certified..
best luck..
about the internships and residencies you can have more information in this web site, although you have to have in mind the dates, and some regulations if you are noth from american veterinary medical association acredited college

Oregon was easy enough - but you must be NAVLE certified first. Then you apply to the state board and write a take home exam on local laws. You pay your yearly dues and that's it.
For California state boards there are two portions to the exam. A knowledge based exam that tests you on the animal diseases and the like. This portion focuses a lot on food/agricultural animal diseases that affect CA. If you look around you can find past exam questions that students have compiled over the years. I might have some if anyone is interested in it.
The second part of the exam is based on the practice laws and stuff. They usually send you study materials for the second portion of the exam when you register for it.
