Insurance for pets is very uncommen in Belgium.
in Italy it's rare ...but is slowly increasing
I haven't heard of it existing in Greece...
(impressive percentage on Sweden, woow!)
uncommon in Belgium, mainly because of too many restrictions (no vaccines, no health check, limited surgery budget, some breeds and/or diseases are excluded,...) or simply too expensive. From a marketing point of view the people who should promote the service, the vets right?, are too little involved and don't have any benefit doing so.
There isn't any type of insurance in Macedonia. I don't think it would be beneficial for the pets. The biggest expenses that can happen are emergencies, and those aren't commonly covered by the insurance. A better alternative would be a savings account for pet care, and if you end up not needing the money, you can just withdraw them. At least that's what I recommend to my friends.
In Ireland about 30% of small animal patients would be insured but this number is growing. It depends a lot on the practice, whether they promote insurance to new clients
In the Netherlands it is very common, in Belgium it is done more regularly. However still to many grey areas in the contract.
it's becoming more common with time. Still it depends on the area.
there is none in the Philippines! As a veterinarian, I hope this will be also available. I really wanted for owner to have this here in our country.
In South Korea, several insurance companys have tried but due to low client number who want to pay while their pet is not ill, they are all gone.
but they are constantly watching the market situation for re-introduce.
In Ukraine, insurance ofanimalsis poorly developed, althoughthere are caseswhereyou can meetthe insuredhorse.because it isvery expensiveanimals, and their fearis mainlypre-shipmentand competitions
Australia is increasing in avalability in pet inssurence, most are just adding it on to home or car if you're with a major bank but there are places that are strictly for pets. They however are just resellers of inssurece and don't handle the claims, RSPCA is a big one in Australia. Plus a % of your premiums go towards RSPCA and it's cause.
It is available in Switzerland and some people have it when they have like a cat or dog with chronic disease, so they know that their pet will cost a lot in the future.
From what I see, I'd say about 5% of dogs...1% for cats in france.
I have worked at a Veterinary Teaching Hospital, and only about 5% of clients had insurance. When they used their insurance, it was usually a substantial amount/procedure, so for those clients, it was of great use.
I know there is no insurance for horses in Croatia, I don't know about other animals. In Slovenia, where I study, there is insurance, and again I am not sure what the situation is with other animals, I've seen someone in previous posts wrote it is still rare, but it is more common for horses, as the vet bills tend to be high.
It's pretty common in the UK. I process about 20 claims + a week. We do have a big problem though as there are some pretty awful companies out there that seem to offer a good level of cover and when it comes time to claiming a lot of the time owners get very little back.
Still quite a few good ones though, although they do seem to be slightly more costly. Slowly clients are becoming more informed about them but its a long slow process.
